Truncated Posts and Commenting - Opinions Needed

The last few hours I have been reading about blogging. I'm always interested in learning new things that I can use or do that will help make me a better blogger.

There are two things that I have always struggled with and I need your opinions.

1. Truncated Posts.
Love em or hate em?

For those of you that aren't sure what truncated posts are...They are posts that have a few sentences showing and then you will have to click that will take you to the full post.

The main reason why I started doing this on my blog was to have my blog load quicker (especially on Fridays for the linky party).

2. Commenting.
Do you prefer bloggers respond to your comments via email or on your blog? Or do you respond to comments on your blog?

I tend to reply via email when the e-mail address is available, but reply to a commenter on their blog when they are a no-reply blogger.

What do you prefer?

  1. Great questions! The jury is still out on the truncated posts for me...not sure on that one!
I reply to comments thru email, unless it is a 'no reply' blogger and then I go to their blog! The reason is that I never go back to people's blogs to see if they replied to my comments because I don't have time to do that! Angie xo

  2. I generally think I like the whole post, but since I never thought about the posts loading quicker if they are truncated, I might prefer that way! You brought up a really good point! lol! And I respond anywhich way! :)

  3. Not fond of truncated posts and I prefer comments thru email for the same reason as Angie. Just my preferences :)

  4. I don't have a love or hate feeling towards truncated posts. That being said, I don't read nearly as many posts on a blog that uses truncated posts. I just think you're in a situation then where you only have those few lines to grab the person's interest. With a whole post, I will typically at least skim the entire thing, which then will make it more likely that I'll be commenting/coming back to read more in the future.

As far as comments, I prefer blogs that are set up so that the blogger can respond on their own blog and then an email is sent to me that there is a response. I feel like there tends to be more opportunity for conversation among several readers, rather than just the "obligatory" response from the blogger.

  5. I don't really like the truncated posts for many of the same reasons of Aramelle. I also agree with her comments about comments!

  6. I'm not a fan of truncated posts because I'm lazy ;). I respond to comments via email unless they are a non-reply and I respond to their comment on my blog. I like Aramelle's points on facilitating conversation in the comments section!
