How To Turn A Lamp Into A Topiary

Ever since making the topiary for our master bathroom, I have wanted to make one for my daughters room.

I made this one differently, so I wanted to share with you how I made this topiary using a lamp.

My grandmother had brought a few lamps to donate to our garage sale a couple of weeks ago and I was so excited to see two that I just had to have.

I already had the purple vine flowers... Perfect! I'll use those!

All I needed was a few other supplies (most I had on hand) and I was good to go.

Topiary Lamp

Supplies I used:
* An old lamp
* Tools to remove the hardware from the lamp
*Rust-Oleum Satin Heirloom White Spray Paint
* 4" foam ball
* Flowers
* Hot Glue
* Ribbon

This is the way the lamp looked originally.  Kind of a country blue lamp.

Country Lamp

First, I removed all of the hardware.  I ended up cutting the wire to remove it from the stand and using channel locks to remove the top piece since it was screwed on.

Lamp Without Hardware

After removing all of the "non-needed" goodies from the lamp, I spray painted it.  I didn't use a primer or even sand it.  I was being lazy.

Painted Lamp Base

Once, the lamp base was good and dry, I gathered my remaining supplies.

I pushed the foam ball onto the top of the stand, where it was centered, and glued it on using my hot glue gun.

Next, I removed all of the flower and leaves from my flower vine.

I pushed the flowers into the foam ball where I wanted them to fit permanently.

Flower Foam Ball

I removed them to expose the hole and put hot glue into the holes before placing the flowers back onto the foam ball.

Here is the topiary after all of the flowers were on and before I started adding the leaves and other greenery.  I just glued the leaves in to fill up the spaces.

You could also use just flowers.

And here's the final Topiary Lamp.  I tied a bow around the base but I didn't glue it on.  This way I could change it at a later time if I needed to.
